OR-Rooters,
As part of the Oregon Archives Month celebrations, the Oregon State Archives will hold an open house on Saturday, October 13th, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Tours of the Archives will be offered on the half-hour and will provide visitors with a chance to go "behind the scenes" to learn more about the Archives and its holdings. Tours last about thirty minutes and include the opportunity to see some of Oregon's most significant historical documents, including the original Oregon Constitution. In addition, visitors will have an opportunity to conduct research as staff will be available to assist them and make records available for them to use.
The theme for this year's Archives Month is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the passage of women's suffrage in Oregon. An exhibit highlighting documents related to women's history and political involvement in Oregon will be on display in the gallery of the Archives Building. Included in the exhibit is the original proclamation declaring women's suffrage, written by Abigail Scott Duniway.
Light refreshments will be served.
So, please join us in celebrating National Archives Month and take advantage of this special Saturday opening.
The State Archives is located as 800 Summer Street NE in Salem. Normal operating hours are 8:00 am to 4:45 pm Monday through Friday
For those of you in the Portland area (or looking for an excuse to go to Portland) the third annual Archives Crawl is Saturday October 6th
to learn more about this fun event visit http://pdxarchivists.wordpress.com/ . I will be manning the State Archives table at the Portland City Archives this year.
Hope to see some of you folks at one or both of these events.
Regards,
Layne Sawyer
