Perhaps you all already know about this book, but I came across it at the
library and checked it out. The title is: A girl from Yamhill: a memoir.
Written by the popular children's author Beverly Cleary. It is an
autobiography and is a fascinating read if you had parents or grandparents
who grew up in Oregon in the early 1920's through the depression years,
etc. She is an excellent writer and you can really get a feel for what it
was like back then. My mom was born in 1919 and this was a perfect book
for me to read to understand what things were like back then. I would
highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested in this era of
Oregon, especially the Yamhill area.
I think it is really helpful for a genealogist to read about the area her
ancestors were from in the form of autobiographies when you can find them.
Happy hunting,
Dale in Southern California
