Also I recently learned that Astoria had a disastrous fire that might have put paid to any record you are seeking. It is interesting how the newspaper gossip columns back in the day could think it noteworthy to publish the fact that my grandfather visited his daughter in Reedsport from Gardiner back in the day, but unless you were a prominent citizens chances were that your passing might not be mentioned in?the?paper unless it came to the attention of the same busybody who supplied the rest of the local gossip column. I checked state archives index and all they show is the probate papers. They do have a number of hits for Are you looking for cause of death or information on parents? Especially I was unaware of the Martindale cemetery and for some reason didn't think to look for just Trowbridge on Finda grave. I did find the date of March 14th some time after I posted last night but was in the middle of scanning in my ninth grade school annual and forgot to pass on what I had found. I got that from ?Francis Bacon?Trowbridge's " The?Trowbridge?Genealogy" published in 1908 in New Haven, CT. It is?available?as a download on?Google?books and easy to find by googling the author.? I didn't do very good at finding things on Google obviously, don't ?know why I didn't try for a Cemetery in Camas Valley or just the name Trowbridge. I wonder if the reason I didn't find Benjamin is the person posting his page titled it Bejamin? ?In the genealogy cited above his father is still living and I went looking for him with no luck either and it seems that no one else to date has come up with an answer for that one, I found several recent genealogies that list his date of death as unknown, but maybe they were lazy like me. It seems like with a name like Edwin Going he'd be easy to track down, but no luck as far as I could find, though searching that also brings up the genealogy. ? Thank you again Sue and Mable, I am going to chew on the new info for a bit then get on with my day.? I have been having a fight with my computer for several months now as it is locking up frequently, maybe because of a card game I installed but not sure. A couple of weeks ago I opened Family search in my Chrome browser and it was scrambled to the point of being completely unusable. I uninstalled Chrome and cleaned out malware on my computer and reinstalled Chrome and the page is still useless, the only thing I can open normally on family search is the 1940 census page, but when I perform a search there it goes kablooey one me too. The problem is unique to my computer as my son can open the site just fine in his browser so unless it is something with XP it is MY problem. It turns out I can use Family search in Mozilla just fine, but that means more strain on my resources and more frequent lock ups.? But it doesn't stop me from spending too much time on genealogy, just makes me growl more while doing it. Thanks again you are such a great group. One place to check for births in Oregon is the OR State Archives index of delayed birth certificates - it is online and a quick check that sometimes reveals births that occurred at home. http://genealogy.state.or.us/ I believe Prineville had a newspaper that was pretty good at small town details. That might be a good place to check but the newspapers aren't indexed. Knight Library in Eugene has the best microfilm collection for the State of Oregon but I believe the Oregon Historical Society in Portland may have some newspaper microfilms also. It is possible that the Library of Congress Newspaper may have something helpful IF they have those years and that newspaper. The first hospital in Prineville opened in 1912 in a house renamed Home Hospital. The next hospital, Maternity Hospital, operated on the second floor of the Elkins house in the 1930s. In 1940 the three-story Cornett House was converted to the Prineville General Hospital. The Bowman Museum has a film of a patient being carried on a stretcher up a narrow flight of stairs, maneuvered around a sharp corner, and up more stairs to the patient rooms. Maybe that patient was one of the citizens who saw the need for a ?modern? hospital that wasn?t in someone?s former home. In 1948 a group of citizens raised money from the community of Prineville to build Pioneer Memorial Hospital. It opened in 1950 and has served the community ever since. Medicine, technology and patient treatment have changed drastically through the years and now there is talk again about building a new hospital in Prineville. The 1930 Fed Census for Clark County, WA has her as their adopted child. We need to find something that proves both names are the same person. She died 9 September 1990 in Portland. We have tried Social Security and the marriage license. North Dakota doesn?t have a birth certificate. This information is needed for an application. I understand that many people may see this as strengthening safeguards against identity theft and creation of phony identification. In reality all it will accomplish is making life more difficult for we in the genealogical community and have little or no effect on those intended consequences. For a mere $39.95 with my handy dandy?MasterCard?I recently signed on to a web service that pretty much gives me access to the vital records of anyone I want information on, the more recent the information I want the better. I bought it because a cousin was wanting to contact an ex wife of her brother; boom for an additional $2.95 for the "details" i.e. exact address and current phone number. In many states this service provides actual copies of documents. So if the intent is to protect identification, it is a case of closing the barn door after the horse is gone.? A further objection is that it appears to be creating a new level of State government at a time when we can't pay for what we have. If there are changes that genuinely need to be made in records keeping, they should be administratively handled within our current vital statistics organization. If you ever get a chance to check out the Douglas County museum in Roseburg notice the name on the Steam donkey out front; it was donated by my Uncle Sherman, his wife and Lee Monteith's wife were sisters. I think somewhere in their display they have a picture of Uncle moving it up Yellow Butte. One of my earliest memories is taking the old road from Phillips Ranch up to Yellow Butte when I was seven or so and Dad pointing out a slope he yarded that thing up at the time the picture was taken. From somewhere I had entered the name Sarah Teeters as his spouse but in the 1880 Cottage Grove Census there is a Miller daughter in law Susan and son William; the significance of this is when I searched the marriage index I found this; Name:????????????? ??????????? John W. Miller???????? Spouse's Name:? Susan E. Teeters??????? Event Date:???? ??????????? 01 Feb 1879 Event Place:???? ? ??????????? Birth Date:?????? ??????????? 04 Jan 1880 Birthplace:?????? ??????????? Multnomah, Oregon??? Father's Name:??????????? ??????????? John Wesley Miller??? Mother's Name:? Susan Emaline Teeters so that seems like enough evidence in my sloppy sort of genealogy to accept I have the right people. I have a Multnomah Co death in December of 1942 for John which may or may not be the correct one since John Miller is such and unusual name, but it would help me to corroborate if I could track John and Susan and William past 1880. One source lists Susan as dead before 1911 but no details and has John still in the Cottage Grove area where I am not finding him after 1880. Oops, I think I just found them, I had one last method, it turns out there are only 358 Oregon born heads of family in 1910 in Oregon and I am pretty sure John W, Emma S with 26 year old son George in Seventh Ward 95th Pct Multnomah county are my folks so the person?supplied?the ?1911 date just jumped a whole bunch in cred since before this I couldn't find corroboration of George's?birth. Huh, now looking again just Miller born in Oregon 1900 there they are in CG where they belong??? I did several different searches for them yesterday and never turned them up?? Must have lost what little I had left of my mind; anyway back to the central question. Susan aka Sarah is listed as born in Oregon age 22 in 1880 (gee she seems to be only 30 in 1900? must be a clerical error.) and in 1860 in Marion Co there is an SE age 3 dau of H Teeters, but there the trail grows ver ver confused; I do find in Sonoma county a James H about the right age, but born in a different state than listed in 1860 and with a different wife and they are in Cottage Grove in 1880 which would seem evidence of a connection to Susan, but I haven't found her in 1870, nor any clue what happened to her mother unless they are the Angeline and Sarelda in San Luis Obispo in 1870. I guess at this point I no longer need to know, but why is it so hard to find someone with a name like that unless these are the people.? I believe I just found John and Susan in 1920 in Clackamas so am guessing the before 1911 may be wrong after all, unless it is a different Susan? There is a death index item that looks good for her now; Name: Susan E Miller Event Type: Death Event Date: 09 Mar 1943 Event Place: Portland, Oregon Maybe I'll just cheat and use that one.?
