OR-Rooters,
October is Archives Month and the State Archives has a number of events on tap to help celebrate this month including a new exhibit.
Oregon State Archives has opened a new exhibit featuring photographs of cemeteries around the state. The images offer a look at the wide range of ways that people represent themselves and their loved ones in death. The exhibit shows cemeteries in diverse settings all around Oregon - from farmland to deserts to mountains. Thirty three photographic panels make up the exhibit and include descriptions about the image, show the location of the cemetery and gives information about the site.
The photographs in the exhibit were taken by Senior Archivist Gary Halvorson while traveling the state conducting historical county records surveys for the State Archives.
The exhibit is located in the lobby gallery of the State Archives building and is open from 8:00 to noon and 1:00 to 4:45 Monday through Friday.
Saturday, October 11th the State Archives will be hosting an open house from 10-3 and the exhibit will be available for viewing along with selected historical documents from the holdings and tours of the building.

The Archives will also be participating in an "Exposition" of local heritage organizations on campus at Western Oregon University, October 15th from 10:30-1:30, as well as the "Archives Crawl"(http://pdxarchivists.wordpress.com/ ) in Portland October 18th. If you are out and about on any of these dates please feel free to stop by and say hello. I always enjoy meeting list members in person.
Hope you are all enjoying a lovely fall.

Regards,

Layne Sawyer
