OREGON ARCHAEOLOGY CELEBRATION BEGINS!!!!!

Events are taking place around the state that are part of the 2006
Oregon Archaeology Celebration. This year's celebration is
highlighting
the centennial of the American Antiquities Act of 1906. The act has
helped protect historic and prehistoric resources in Oregon and
elsewhere, and established an archaeological  permitting process that
increases public knowledge and ensures preservation of collections in
public museums.

The celebration concludes Oct. 15. Activities during the next week
will
take place at Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Independence, Fort Rock, Warm
Springs, Smith Rock State Park, and the Tamastslikt Cultural
Institute.
