Rebecca Dobkins, Professor of Anthropology at Willamette and curator of
the exhibition, "The Art of Ceremony: Regalia of Native Oregon", will
deliver an illustrated lecture on historical and contemporary ceremonial
regalia of native Oregon on Thursday, October 16 beginning at 7 p.m. in
the Paulus Lecture Hall in the College of Law.

Dobkins' lecture is co-sponsored by the Salem Society, Archaeological
Institute of America.

Admission is free.

Dobkins' lecture is presented in conjunction with "The Art of Ceremony:
Regalia of Native Oregon", a major exhibition of historical and
contemporary ceremonial regalia selected by members of the nine
federally recognized tribes of Oregon. Organized by Dobkins in
partnership with tribal leaders, artists and collectors, the exhibition
has been designed to introduce non-tribal audiences to the history,
beauty and function of regalia within tribal life and thought. The
exhibition runs from Sept. 28, 2008 to Jan. 18, 2009 at the Hallie Ford
Museum of Art.

Rebecca Dobkins holds a BA degree from the University of Massachusetts
in Women*s Studies, and MA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of
California, Berkeley in Anthropology, where she specialized in Native
American art and culture. A faculty member at Willamette University
since 1996, Dobkins has been Faculty Curator of Native American Art at
the Hallie Ford Museum of Art since 1998. A prolific writer, she is the
author of numerous articles and books on contemporary Native American
art and culture.

We look forward to seeing you Thursday evening.
