There is one (1) limited duration, full-time position with Oregon Parks
and Recreation Department in Salem, Oregon. This limited duration
position is expected to end on or before June 30, 2009. Limited Duration
appointments are regular status, benefits eligible, with a designated
maximum length of service. 
This position is represented by the Service Employee International
Union (SEIU). 
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified people
to fill the current opening and may be used to fill future vacancies. 
The State provides an excellent benefit and compensation package, which

9 paid holidays, vacation leave earned at the rate of 8 hours per
month, with increases in 5 year increments, 8 hours of sick leave

PRIMARY POSITION DUTIES 
 
The primary purpose of this position is to correct the GIS records of
the statewide archaeological data set of site forms and reports so they
are a complete and accurate version of the hard-copy records.  This
includes comparing the electronic data to the hard-copy records and
making corrections and updates accordingly. 
 
This position works closely with the four-person SHPO archaeology team,
which manages these records for the State of Oregon.  Primary users of
the data are qualified archaeologists representing state and federal
agencies and tribes, or qualified private archaeologists working under
contract with either those entities or companies doing business with
those entities.    
Analyze, update, and correct the GIS data related to the databases and
corresponding site forms and reports that comprise the State Historic
Preservation Office*s master set of archaeological records.  Enter
additional fields of data as deemed appropriate in order to maximize the
utility of the GIS. 
Assist with other GIS related projects as needed within the Archaeology
Section. 
QUALIFICATIONS 
a high school diploma or equivalent AND either: 
an Associate degree in computer science or college-level coursework
that includes 30 quarter (20 semester) computer science credits; OR 
two years of experience that includes providing support to staff in the
operation, maintenance, and installation of computer systems; 
Preference may be given to candidate with a general knowledge of North
American archaeology and Oregon archaeology.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES
 
The ideal candidate will have a performance record demonstrating the
following desired competencies:
Experience and knowledge of using GIS editing software to create,
manipulate, and edit GIS features (points, lines, and polygons); 
Professional GIS experience creating and modifying spatial and tabular
records; 
Computer experience using word processing, spreadsheets, database
entry, and GIS (ArcView / ArcGIS 9). 
WORKING CONDITIONS  
 
Normal office environment; occasional statewide and regional travel,
and public meetings after working hours.
