2009 Archaeology for the Curious Classes Available

The Oregon Archaeological Society is proud to once again offer its annual
series of Training classes. OAS Basic Training, also known as Archaeology
for the Curious, is taught by experienced regional professionals from
organizations such as the National Forest Service, BLM and the University of
Oregon. The program is co-sponsored by the Washington County Museum and
Portland Community College. The first two sessions will be held from 10 a.m.
- 3 p.m. on Jan. 31 and Feb. 14, 2009 at the Rock Creek Campus of Portland
Community College in Building 7, Rm. 121. Topics include archaeology basics
as well as information on artifacts, laws and ethics, Northwest archaeology
and rock art, site stewardship and volunteering. The cost is just $25 for
both sessions.

Additional hands-on training classes in field excavation, cataloging and
laboratory methods, compass reading and site mapping will be held on the
four consecutive Saturdays between Feb. 21 and March 14. Because class size
is limited for the last four sessions, please reserve early. The entire
six-session package is $90 and includes a one-year OAS membership or $60 for
current members.
