GENERAL INFORMATION

*	Department of State Lands is currently recruiting one (1)
full-time, SEASONAL position located in Bend.  Duration of this SEASONAL
position is from JUNE 1, 2009 through NOVEMBER 30, 2009.  
*	The employee in this position is represented by The American
Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME).

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of State Lands (DSL) is the administrative arm of the
State Land Board.  The mission of DSL is to serve the public in two
ways:  First,  *to ensure a legacy for Oregonians and their public
schools through sound stewardship of lands, wetlands, waterways,
unclaimed property, estates and the Common School Fund*.  Second, DSL
is responsible for safeguarding the state*s waterways and wetlands
through management of the state removal-fill program and wetlands
management program and for managing the trust property programs.


TO QUALIFY

Your PD100 application will be reviewed to verify that you meet the
qualifications stated in this section.  To receive credit, your
application form must show that you have: 

*	A Bachelor's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology.  Preference may
be given to an individual in a graduate program; OR 

*	Three years of experience performing in the field of
archaeology.


NOTE: To receive credit for all required/related coursework, a
photocopy of transcripts is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely with range manager to insure multiple range improvement
projects are implemented without impacts to pre-historic or
historic-periods sites or artifacts.  Major duties include:

Project Implementation
*	Insures multiple improvement or land transfer projects are
implemented without impacts to pre-historic or historic-periods sites or
artifacts.  

*	Completes a pedestrian survey covering the impact area at each
proposed project site.  

Report Preparation 
*	Prepares extensive reports including site/isolate find forms,
photos and detailed site data for each project to be submitted per State
Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) standards for their concurrence.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Travel is an essential function of this position.

This position works outside and is subject to varied high desert
weather conditions. Frequent overnight stays and exposure to inclement
weather.  Work will be in remote locations, alone and requires overnight
travel. Work hours are irregular and sometimes long.  Visits to on-site
locations may be by vehicle, watercraft or on foot.  Site visits often
involve walking over uneven terrain and in wet muddy ground without
pathways in all types of weather.  Regular and consistent attendance is
an essential part of this job.
