When is a stacked rock feature (rock cairn) not just a trail marker?
Might it indicate something else? Stephen Todd Jankowski, will address
this question at the May 5th Oregon Archaeological Society meeting. The
topic of his lecture -- Testing the Pointing Cairn Hypothesis: Analysis
of Stacked Rock Feature in South Central Oregon-will advance his
hypothesis that some stacked rock features appear to be oriented toward
natural prominent landmarks in the archaeological landscape.

There is limited existing research regarding stack rock alignments and
topographical orientations. Such feature orientations had never been
studied in the Fort Rock Basin prior to Jankowski*s graduate work.

The presentation is at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) at
7:45 PM, and is free and open to the public. The talk is preceded at
7 PM by a general business meeting, which is also open to the public
