For 2009 OAC celebrates

"The Archaeology of Diversity"

The theme of the 2009 Oregon Archaeology Celebration honors the cultural diversity represented at Oregon State Parks' Champoeg State Heritage Area in the Willamette Valley. In 1843, Champoeg was the location where a vote to form a provisional government began an effort that would eventually lead to Oregon becoming the 33rd state in the Union. When Oregon officially became a state on February 14, 1859, the settlement town of Champoeg had 50 buildings and a population of 200 that included Native Americans, emigrants from other states, and people from several nations.

The 2009 Oregon Archaeology Celebration Calendar of Events is attached or is available at

Information about our exhibit, "Oregon Archaeology Celebrations: Invitations to The Past" is available at www.tamastlikt.org . The exhibit moves to OMSI in December.

If you have suggestions of where you would like the exhibit to go in the future, please let members of the OAC committee know.
