2010 George McMath Preservation Award
Call for Nominations:  November 20, 2009

The George McMath Preservation Award is given each year to an
individual who demonstrates life-long commitment to historic
preservation in the State
of Oregon, excellence in adaptive re-use or restoration of a historic
resource, or outstanding achievement in a heritage-related document or
study. The McMath Award is given by University of Oregon and Venerable
Group, Inc. Last year¹s award went to James Hamrick for his exemplary
leadership and advocacy for historic preservation policy and practice in
Oregon.

TO NOMINATE: Letters of nomination should address the nominee's
contribution to historic preservation and why the University of Oregon
should recognize this nominee with the award.  Please provide contact
information for the nominee, a CV or portfolio, if possible, along with
names and contact information for two persons who can provide references
and will write
letters of recommendation. Nominations must be submitted by November
20, 2009.  


The purpose of this award is to:

·      Honor and celebrate the legacy of George McMath, FAIA,
considered by many the father of preservation for his leadership in
protecting and
preserving Oregon¹s architectural heritage

·      Raise awareness of historic preservation in Oregon

·      Recognize significant leaders in the field

·      Promote excellence in preservation practice

·      Recognize individual and group preservation contributions to the
state's historic landscape

·       Build partnerships between the professional and academic
communities to enhance the field of preservation

Nominees must be individuals or may be representatives of an
organization, company, or agency involved in historic preservation. 
Preference may be given to those who have recognized the heritage value
within the community, city, or the state levels.  Self-nominations will
be accepted.  Nominees should demonstrate excellence through:

·      Exceptional merit in the field of historic preservation as
evidenced by research,  documentation, and/or practice in preservation

·      Historic preservation as a method of urban revitalization that
renews diverse, older neighborhoods

·      Meeting the unique needs of a community through the
rehabilitation and active use of significant buildings, open spaces, or
landmarks, and urban areas

·      Raising public awareness of historic preservation through
practice, advocacy, and/or public policy

·      Demonstration of the highest caliber of preservation work
through his or her career

·      Making a significant impact on the cultural and historical
landscape of Oregon

A jury of educators and professionals will consider each nomination for
outstanding contributions made in the state of Oregon in innovation,
impact, quality, and standards of preservation practice.
 
The recipient will be publicly honored at a ceremony in May, as well as
invited to participate in university lectures, workshops, and courses
throughout the year.
