The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, Eugene,
is seeking candidates for the new position of David and Anne McCosh
Fellow. This full-time appointment, beginning in 2010, may be renewed
for one or more years.
Designed as an entry-level position for a recent art history graduate
aspiring to become a curator at a museum. This position furthers the
research and visibility of the work of the late artist David McCosh and
provides curatorial support to the JSMA's curatorial operations.
The scope of work is broad and diverse. It is responsible for
furthering work on the McCosh collection (60%): developing and
implementing exhibitions that feature the artist's work, inventorying
the collection, recommending conservation and other care, and
researching and writing articles and publications, including a catalogue
raisonée. Support for the curators (40%) ranges from collections
management (research, documentation, exhibition, publication, and
interpretation) to exhibitions coordination (assisting curators with
planning, budgets, loans, installations, programs, and publications).
The salary is $30,000 plus benefits.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree required; MA or PHD in Art History preferred
Excellent research skills
Excellent communications skills
Experience interning or working in an art museum
Word processing and database computer skills
Ability to work with faculty, staff and students from diverse
backgrounds in developing an appreciation of the value of art in our
complex and global society.
