In June 2010, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission bought Kiket Island to co-manage as a state park. On July 30, 2010, representatives from the tribe and state gathered for a dedication ceremony. The link shows both the story and video of the celebration.

One of our great staff here at SHPO passed on this story and its link--
