Historical Research Associates, Inc. (HRA) is a company of cultural resource and historical consultants with 35 years of experience conducting cultural resources management projects for public and private sector clients throughout the West. HRA desires to hire a Principal Investigator Archeologist for our Portland office and seeks motivated individuals with experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM).

HRA's Principal Investigators are responsible for all aspects of smaller projects and work closely with other staff on various aspects of larger projects. Responsibilities include managing and supervising background research, survey and excavation fieldwork, and laboratory analysis; coordinating and writing sections of technical reports; and working with HRA staff, clients, and agency personnel to assure timely delivery of professionally responsive work products. Projects may entail surveys, excavations, determinations of National Register eligibility, evaluation of effects, and design of mitigation measures. This position can focus upon prehistoric or historical archaeology, but can include all types of cultural resources. Periodic travel, especially for fieldwork, is required, with occasional field sessions lasting several weeks. Duties also include some proposal and budget preparation with an expectation that the successful candidate will receive training and learning opportunities to better understand the business aspects of CRM.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in archaeology or related discipline and 2-3 years of experience of increasing responsibility in CRM, preferably involving Section 106 compliance projects in the Northwest. Applicants must meet the Secretary of the Interior's standards for an Archaeologist, with preference given for demonstrated ability and experience in conducting Section 106 consultation. Other requirements include experience conducting and supervising research, survey and excavation fieldwork, analysis, and writing; and good interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with software such as MS Word, Access, Excel, GIS and GPS, and graphics programs is preferred.
