The October 5, 2010 Oregon Archaeological Society lecture will feature a
talk by long time member and educator/historian, Dennis Torresdal.

Torresdal will present a program about Ishi, one of the last Native
Americans to have lived a nearly stone age existence. The lecture will
discuss the forces at hand in Ishi’s native Yahi homeland from the
gold rush era up through 1911 (at which time Ishi was "captured"), and
then through Ishi’s life in twentieth century California where Ishi
adjusted to the wilds of our civilization.

Having had a long time interest in the history of Ishi, Torresdal has
had the opportunity to hike and do field work in Ishi’s California
homeland area and spend time researching the archives of the University
of California at Berkely where many Ishi related artifacts are curated.
The presentation will include many images from the Hurst Museum and also
from the actual areas where the Yahi Indians lived for hundreds of
years.

The presentation is at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) at
7:45 PM, and is free and open to the public. The talk is preceded at 7
PM by a general business meeting, which is also open to the public
