The Grand Ronde Reservation Presentation

Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge is excited to announce the
beginning of its fall lecture series featuring cultural heritage topics.
Starting October 4th, the Refuge will be hosting a presentation from
the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Reservation on the first
Monday of every other month. This is an excellent opportunity to learn
about the native peoples of the area, their culture and traditions.

The first topic will be "The Tualatin and 26 other Native Peoples'
removal: The Grand Ronde Reservation," presented by David G. Lewis. This
program is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you
there! Please contact Jenna
Mendenhall (jenna_mendenhall at fws.gov, 503-625-5944) if you have any
questions or comments.

"Culture is like a tree. If the green branches - a people's language,
legends, customs - are carelessly chopped off, then the roots that bind
people to their place on earth and to each other also begin to wither.
The wind and rain and the elements carry the topsoil away; the land
becomes desert." ~ Mariano Lopez
