SOUTHERN OREGON CONFLICTS FEATURED IN PRESENTATION

“Southern Oregon At War: 1840-1856,” presented by Elizabeth
Corethers, will be presented at noon Nov. 10 at the Ashland Public
Library. The presentation is co-sponsored by the Southern Oregon
Historical Society and the Jackson County Library System.

Corethers will examine events in Southern Oregon from the diverse
perspectives of Native Americans, settlers, miners, traders, and the
military. The discovery of gold led to an explosion of population and
tension, ending the relatively peaceful relations between first
settlers
and Native Americans that had existed prior to the discovery of gold
in
the West. For more information on the series, call SOHS at
541-773-6536
or the Jackson County Library System at 541-774-8689.
