GIS: Practical Applications for Cultural Resource Projects
Salem, OR
March 1-2 and March 3-4, 2011

In cooperation with the National Park Service, Cultural Resources
Geographic Information Services, Oregon Department of Transportation,
and Oregon State Historic Preservation Office.

Review geographic information system (GIS) concepts combining spatial
technologies and database management systems in the area of historic
preservation. Learn how to use GIS applications for identification,
evaluation, protection and preservation of cultural resources. From
assisting with inventories, to mapping historic districts and
battlefields, to mitigating the impact of disasters on historic areas,
GIS technology can be used to provide a better basis for planning and
decision-making for the nation's heritage. An agenda is available

Instructor: Deidre McCarthy, historian and technical services
specialist, Cultural Resources Geographic Information Systems (CRGIS),
National Park Service; facilitates the use of GIS to manage the
location, status, and condition of cultural resources LA/CES.

This seminar meets the criteria for programs in the American
Society of Landscape Architects Continuing Education System and ASLA
members will receive 6 learning units each day.
