OR & WA BLM POSITION OUTREACH NOTICE
Position: Archeologist GS-0193-07, Term Seasonal (13 pay periods)
Office: Salem District, Salem, Oregon
REPLY DUE: March 1, 2011
ABOUT THE OUTREACH:
The Salem District Office is conducting this outreach to identify the
potential level of interest in the position described above. This outreach
will help identify the potential size of the applicant pool within
Oregon/Washington for this position and to assist in determining the
appropriate recruitment method and area of consideration if the position is
advertised. It will also help in identifying whether employees are
interested in a potential lateral reassignment. An expression of interest
is in no way binding on the employee nor does it give preferential
consideration for selection.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Duties include both pre-field research and cultural resource field surveys
to identify and record prehistoric and historic resources. Individual will
complete inventory reports, maps and site forms to both SHPO and BLM
standards.
This position will at times lead survey crews that can be comprised of
seasonal employees, student interns, and/or volunteers. The incumbent will
also ensure that archeological sites are properly documented, photographed
and mapped.
It is estimated that the individual hired will be primarily performing
archeological surveys in the field 75% of their time. A valid driver
license and the ability and willingness to work alone in the field are
necessary. Field conditions can be harsh and terrain may be rough and
heavily forested.

The duty station for this position is Salem, Oregon
