To our Oregon Archaeology colleagues:

The oldest Egyptian pyramid! The real mines of Solomon! Ancient cities
in the desert! All this and more will thrill the audience as the top films
in the world compete during The Archaeology Channel International Film and
Video Festival, opening May 24th at The Shedd in Eugene, Oregon.

TAC Festival is the only juried competition for cultural heritage films in
the Western Hemisphere. The five-day event celebrates the wonders of human
diversity with award-winning films from around the world. Topics that
range from archaeology and ancient cultures to indigenous peoples and their
environments will come alive with historic reenactments, powerful
storytelling and amazing digital effects.

Producers from 20 countries submitted 69 entries for this year’s eighth
season. The top 18 films, from leading film producers worldwide, will be
shown on the big screen in the Recital Hall at The Shedd in downtown Eugene,
from May 24 through May 28. These films will cover topics such as
Stonehenge, the world’s oldest portable sculpture, a young girl who fell in love
with the moon, a mysterious sea cave on the south coast of Chile, vanishing
traces of old Beijing, and more. Three of the competing films already have
won awards at international film festivals.

The Keynote Speaker this year will be Dr. Tom King, the principal
archaeologist in the longstanding effort to learn what happened to famed aviatrix
Amelia Earhart. This research effort, focusing on a small Pacific island,
was featured in December 2010 by Discovery in a two-hour TV special. Dr.
King, an outstanding presenter, will describe his work, which has yielded
solid evidence that may lead to a resolution of the Amelia Earhart mystery.

Tickets now are on sale directly by Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI),
with special pricing before May 1. So save money and reserve them now!

Respond by e-mail here if you have questions.

One more thing. Please participate in this event and share this
information throughout your networks with everyone who likes film and has
imagination about distant cultures and times long past. The best form of promotion
is word of mouth, so if you feel that this event is worth keeping in our
community and in our state, tell people about it and ask them to do the same.
We do newspaper ads, flyers, and so forth, but by themselves they won’t do
the job. And we will have no TV ads this year.

We hope to see you there! Thanks very much.
