“Media Day” July 13 at Champoeg

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a media-only
interview/tour with Oregon State University Professor of Anthropology
Dr. David Brauner at Champoeg State Heritage Site Wednesday, July 13,
2011 from 9:00-9:45 am.

Brauner and his students are continuing work begun in 2002 to uncover
the historic Robert Newell House site. The last dig, in 2009, yielded
artifacts such as tobacco pipes, an intact glass bottle, pieces of
English pottery, and a hand dug well with a wooden lining. Brauner
thinks the 2011 dig could be the best yet, with the potential to unearth
a privy, based on the 2009 discovery of a walkway that may lead to an
undiscovered treasure trove of 19th century trash.

Media: meet at the Visitor Center parking lot for free parking and
access. Signs will be posted. For more information, call the park at
