Hi all,

We are once again looking for an enthusiastic and well qualified archaeologist. Please forward to anyone you know who may be interested in the positions and please post on any list servers. Note that there are two links to the job announcement below - one for current federal employees or individuals applying with Merit Promotion potential, and one for all citizens of the U.S. Please make sure you apply under the correct announcement that applies to your status. Now here is my pitch...

Why should you consider working for the Bureau of Reclamation in Sacramento, California? We are a team of cultural resources professionals consisting of archaeologists, an architectural historian, a physical anthropologist (to arrive soon), and museum specialist. The Sacramento area is centrally located in California and provides ease of access to the Sierra Nevada mountains and the California Coast. You could be skiing in the morning and surfing in the evening or enjoying a good hike in the morning and wine tasting in the evening. There is a plethora of activities to be had in the region as well as ample affordable housing both to rent and to buy. Sacramento is truly the gem of the Central Valley with warm sunny days that cool off nicely in the evening. Perfect for those outdoor parties or simply strolling through town enjoying the many delicious restaurants, great bars, and nightlife that can be had throughout the region. Sacramento is a place you will enjoy calling home.

The cultural resources work is a complimentary mix of field and office work. We have many complex interesting projects where good scientific principled archaeology and Cultural Resource Management mix to form both challenging and rewarding work experiences. As we are a water management agency, and archaeology tends to be where water goes (as the case may be). As you might expect, given our work place, we come across and work on very interesting archeology. There is never a dull day in Reclamation's Sacramento office. Our region includes south central Oregon to Ventura, California, and extends from the California Coast to most of northern Nevada nearing the Utah border providing an opportunity to experience diverse environments and equally diverse archaeology. So if you are interested in working with a group of dynamic and well qualified professionals, working on interesting archaeology, and enjoy a good challenge once in a while, then please apply for this job as this is the job and place for you.
