Hello Folks,

I forward the following request with the observation that 3 of the invited speakers (Davis, Erlandson, and Jenkins) are from Oregon, a high percentage.

Dear Odyssey Conference Participants,

We are writing to give you an update on the Paleoamerican Odyssey Conference.

First, thank you for getting your chapters in. We have already started the review process on those that have come in and we know when the other chapters will arrive. Thus, we are still on target to have the conference volume available in Santa Fe.

Second, conference registrations are coming in. The crowd so far is a good mix of professional archaeologists, avocationals, and the public. Also, the banquet is selling very well. Don’t worry; we have your spot reserved at the banquet. We will be in contact soon to ask whether you want a beef, chicken, or vegetarian entrée.

Third, we have many good collections coming to the conference and we have more being committed to us. Thus, the exhibit room will be a major destination. Let us know if you’d like to display any collections.

Fourth, we will be in touch after the first of the year to find out about your travel needs and schedule. Also, your lodging has already been reserved. You will all be staying at the Hotel Santa Fe.

Fifth, we have been advertising the conference in several venues. We have a conference website. We got the word out to local avocational and state societies about the conference. We are even on Facebook and we plan to have a more active Facebook page soon. We are also advertising in American Archaeology and The Archaeological Record this winter and spring.

We would like to ask your assistance with two things. First, while we are doing well advertising the conference, we request your help in getting the word out. Whenever you can, please give the conference a plug. This could be at a public lecture. We have attached the conference logo for your use. Second, please encourage your colleagues and students to submit poster presentations. We have received a number of submissions, but we have plenty more room. Deadline for submission of poster abstracts is April 1, 2013. Perhaps you know someone who might like to organize a poster symposium. Anyway, your help in getting the word out about the conference and the ability to submit posters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and we are looking forward to an exciting conference.

We hope that you all have a great Holiday and Happy New Year!

            Mike, Ted, and Kelly
