Archaeologist

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an Archaeologist for our
Portland, Oregon office. The Archaeologist will be a core member of the
Cultural Resources Program, acting as both a scientist and a project
manager. The Archaeologist has ultimate responsibility for successfully
winning and executing contracts, and leading all aspects of project
implementation.  The Senior Archaeologist assists in the continuing
development of SWCA’s Cultural Resource Program and expands SWCA’s
professional reputation in cultural resources consulting and research
throughout Oregon and beyond.  This is a regular, full-time, hourly
position that will report to the Cultural Resources Team Lead.  
 Job Responsibilities:
·         Acts as scientist and project manager
·         Oversee and/or perform all aspects of field research, data
collection, inventory, analysis, and report production 
·         Stays abreast of latest publications and research trends in
the Pacific Northwest and contributes to the regional knowledge of
archaeology. 
·         Leads the writing of technical reports and is responsible for
quality control of all deliverables.
·         Synthesizes project results for public presentations and
peer-reviewed publications 
·         Develops and manages project budgets
·         Supports marketing and proposal efforts
·         Supervises personnel in the field, office, and laboratory
·         Collaborates with SWCA’s managers, directors, and principal
investigators on technical and business development efforts throughout
the company
·         Maintains SWCA’s high standard of scientific ethics and
quality assurance, and is motivated to identify and resolve problems in
creative ways
Job Qualifications:
·         A minimum of a Master’ Degree in anthropology, archaeology,
history, or a closely related field required. Preference will be given
to candidates with expertise in lithic analysis, historic archaeology,
geoarchaeology, faunal analysis or similar specialty. Preference will
also be given to candidates with a background in the archaeology of the
Pacific Northwest. 
·         At minimum of five (5) years of experience in cultural
resources management (CRM) on a variety of project types and sizes,
regions, and agencies
·         A minimum of three (3) years of experience in CRM in a
supervisory capacity
·         A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing CRM
projects, including budgets, scheduling, and scopes of work
·         Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional
Qualifications Standards in archaeology required
·         Ability to be listed on federal and state cultural resource
permits
·         Has completed all aspects of a project, from pre-field tasks
to final report preparation for a variety of project types and sizes,
regions, and agencies
·         Has led large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of
project types and sizes, regions, and agencies
·         Strong technical research and writing skills a must
