The Whole Shootin’ Match: The Ammunition System of a Prehistoric Great
Basin Hunter is the title of the January 7, 2014 lecture sponsored by
the Oregon Archaeological Society. Anan Raymond, the Regional
Archaeologist for the six western state Pacific Region of U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service, is the featured speaker.

Seven hundred years ago a hunter stashed, and failed to retrieve, a bag
of 101 projectile points, preforms, and other tools in a cave in Nevada.
Fifty years ago, relic collectors found the bag and sold it to a museum.
Today, a technological study of the artifacts reveals how the hunter
manufactured, organized, and used his projectile point ammunition. The
artifacts provide a rare glimpse of the working ammunition system of a
mobile hunter-flint knapper in the prehistoric western Great Basin.

Raymond has conducted archaeological research and cultural resource
management in the western United States for almost 30 years.

The presentation is at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is
free and open to the public. A general business meeting begins at 7 PM,
followed by the lecture.
