"Rogue River War Archaeology and the Establishment of the Oregon Territory" is the title of the March 4, 2014 lecture sponsored by the Oregon Archaeological Society and presented by Dr. Mark Tveskov.

Tveskov will describe recent archaeological research findings at several important sites in the Rogue Valley that shed light on the role of the Federal Government in the early settlement of the Oregon Territory. Important archaeological sites include Camp Castaway on the North Spit of Coos Bay; the Battle of Hungry Hill site (October 1855), and Fort Lane near Jacksonville.

Dr. Tveskov is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Southern Oregon University Laboratory of Anthropology in Ashland, Oregon. His interests and publications include ethnohistory and prehistory of the West Coast and Northeast; cultural identity in colonial contexts; cultural ecology of maritime hunter gatherers; and European archaeology, notably related to the Norse.

The presentation is at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) at 7:45 PM, and is free and open to the public. The talk is preceded by a general business meeting beginning at 7 PM, that is also open to the public
