Edmonds South-Snohomish County Historical Society and Museum

Edmonds, WA

The Edmonds Historical Museum is governed by the Edmonds South-Snohomish County Historical Society and is dedicated to sharing the history of our community. We will achieve this by research; collection and preservation of historical documents, artifacts, memories and events; and by utilizing interpretive displays and engaging in creative public educational programming. The museum is located within a restored 1910 Carnegie library in downtown Edmonds, Washington. Museum Director Position Description

The Edmonds Historical Museum Director is responsible for the development, execution, and management of the policies, programs, and initiatives, as directed by the Board of Directors and the mission of the Edmonds South-Snohomish County Historical Society.

The Museum Director actively promotes community involvement, develops modern and emerging exhibits and activities, and:
•   ​Assumes management responsibility for the museum in curation, artifact acquisition and preservation, education, exhibits, storage and display, services, activities and events, operations and support, administration, and interpretation and presentation of local community history.
•   Continues and leads efforts with the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) to complete a Museum Assessment Program and achieve national accreditation.
•   Supervises and coordinates the work of staff, professional consultants, volunteers, and interns.
•   Is responsible for generating grant and funding opportunities.
•   Successfully collaborates with board members on implementing policies and procedures.
•   Cultivates relationships with staff, volunteers, donors and board members.

The listed duties are illustrative and are not intended to describe every function that may be required. The omission of specific statements does not preclude the Board of Directors from assigning other duties consistent with the position.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree (required) or Master's/Ph.D. (preferred) in relevant discipline (i.e. museum studies, curation, conservation, anthropology, archaeology, history, education, art history, etc.).

The successful candidate must also have a minimum of 3-5 years experience and demonstrate the following leadership capabilities:
•   Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, digital communications, and multiple media platforms to effectively engage community.
•   Demonstrated experience with website development and social media, especially as used in museums and educational settings.
•   ​Strong understanding of organizational finance, budget preparation, and fiscal management.
•   Successful grant writing skills and fund raising experience.
•   Capacity to successfully interface with stakeholders (board members, volunteers, staff, educators, students, politicians, media representatives).
•   Leadership and management experience with diverse staff and volunteer population.

Compensation

This is a fulltime salaried position. Salary range is between $40,000 - $50,000 dependent on experience. Compensation will be discussed with qualified candidates during the interview process.
