The Oregon Department of Transportation is looking for a qualified archaeologist to join our cultural resources team. This position will assist with transportation project delivery statewide and be responsible for coordination with regulatory agencies as well as Tribal government representatives. The purpose of this position is to serve as a staff expert in archaeology and general cultural resources and coordinate all levels of archaeological evaluation on various transportation projects across the state.

Additional Information:
*         This announcement will remain open until filled. Screening will begin as early as 09/04/2015.
*         This is a limited duration appointment that will/is expected to end on or before June 2017.  Limited duration appointments are regular status, benefits eligible, with a designated maximum length of service.
*         This position requires extensive travel, field work, and attendance at Tribal consultation meetings and ODOT project delivery team meetings across the state. Desk work and research is also involved. The person in this position must be accountable and able to work independently.
*         This position is represented by the Association of Engineering Employees of Oregon (AEE)
*         Must have and maintain a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
Duties & Responsibilities

This individual's basic task is analyzing and documenting the impacts of projects and other department activities on historic properties. This work includes the independent design and conduct of research and the preparation of documents. Duties include but are not limited to, review and compliance related to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act as well as Oregon Statutes, performing Tribal consultation with the nine Federally recognized Tribes within the state of Oregon as well as applicable out-of-state Tribes; coordinating directly with the State Historic Preservation Office as well as Local governments and cultural resources consultants.
Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
*         A graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Cultural Resources Management, AND
*         Three years of professional experience in Archaeology, researching and analyzing data, conducting field work, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.
Desired Attributes (Preference will be given to those applicants with):
*         A Master's Degree in Archaeology or Cultural Resources Management (meeting the Secretary of Interior Standards for Archaeology)
*         Professional-level experience handling cultural resources review and compliance work
*         Previous tribal consultation and GIS experience.
*         Archaeological research experience at the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office
*         Experience exercising diplomacy, foster trusting relationships, and anticipate sensitive issues
*         Experience multi-tasking and handling heavy volume of work under tight timelines.
