Salvage Chief is a former U.S. Navy landing vessel from the World War II Pacific theater, converted for work as a salvage vessel between 1947 and 2008. The vessel would drop three anchors, back into a grounded vessel, attach cables to it and winch the stranded vessels off the ground.

It refloated several hundred stranded vessels and assisted many others. Among those were New Carissa, which ran aground and broke apart near Coos Bay during a storm in 1999, and Exxon Valdez, an oil tanker that ran aground in Alaska's Prince William Sound in 1989. Salvage Chief once towed a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier across the Pacific Ocean.

In September 2015, Salvage Chief was moved to Astoria, Oregon and has recently been purchased by the Salvage Chief, LLC, from The Marine Salvage Consortium. (Daily Astorian, 2015)
