The Making Archaeology Public Project (MAPP) is a national effort to honor
the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and
raise awareness about the archaeology done as a result of the act. As
such, each state was asked to make a short video highlighting a significant
archaeological site found through the Section 106 process.
The MAPP project is just one aspect of the larger Preservation 50 outreach
campaign, which is a collaboration between federal and state agencies,
including the National Park Service and the Advisory Council for Historic
Preservation. The Jacksonville Chinese Quarter Site was chosen to represent
Oregon, and our video was made through a collaboration between Southern
Oregon University and the Oregon Department of Transportation. There are a
dozen state videos done so far, and more on the way. If you plan to attend
the Society for American Archaeology (SAA) meetings next week, please look
for the MAPP theater which will be playing the videos throughout the
conference (and cheer on Oregon!).

You can learn more about the MAPP project and watch videos from other
states here, at the Preservation 50 site: http://preservation50.org/mapp/

We are excited to have had the opportunity to participate in this effort to
commemorate NHPA, and we hope the video will not only be entertaining, but
a useful resource for people working within in the CRM field.

Please enjoy, and spread the word!

Best,
Chelsea
