Hello all--
Please come to the Archaeology First Thursday presentation sponsored by the PSU Anthropology Department this coming Thursday, Dec 7, at 4 o'clock.

David Clinnick (Durham University), willl present,

"The First-East West Dichotomy: a reconsideration of the Southeast Asian Lower Paleolithic"

Hallam Movius argued that the Lower Palaeolithic cultures of East Asia and SE Asia represented a different cultural trajectory than that of Europe and Africa. The chopper-chopping tool complex of East and SE Asia was argued to be more primitive in many aspects. The type-site assemblages of the SE Asian Pacitanian and Tampanian cultures are two out of only five assemblages that Movius initially used to define the chopper-chopping tool complex. This presentation provides a reassessment of the original Pacitanian and Tampanian assemblages that were excavated by members of the Raffles Museum, Singapore, highlighting reduction strategies that have been largely overlooked since the late 1930's.

The presentation will take place in Cramer Hall 41 (1721 SW Broadway, PSU Campus). It is free and open to the public.

Please share the attached flyer with your friends and colleagues.

We look forward to seeing you here!
