Hello all-
Please come to our Archaeology First Thursday presentation this coming Thursday, Feb 1.
This week's presentation is by Dr. Colin Grier (Washington State University) who will present:
"Applying Near Surface Geophysics for Architectural Reconstruction and Collaborative Archaeology at Lamalchi Bay, a Plankhouse Village in coastal British Columbia"
Despite decades of excavation inside houses, our sample of interior house and village plans for the Salish Sea remains surprisingly limited. I outline how geophysics can be productively applied to remedy this problem, illustrated by recent and planned work at the Lamalchi Bay village site, the scene of Colonial-Indigenous conflict in coastal British Columbia in 1863. Coupled with research at other village locations, results provide the possibility to address some key hypotheses about long-term household and village organization, and to facilitate restorative justice for indigenous peoples.
The talk will be in Cramer Hall 41 (1721 SW Broadway) at 4 pm. It is free and open to all.
Please share the attached flyer with your friends and colleagues.
Look forward to seeing you soon!
