Archaeologist I


The Kalispel Tribe of Indians in Usk, Washington is seeking an Archaeologist I.

Summary of Functions
The Archaeologist I is responsible for conducting field inventories to identify and conserve historic properties within the Pend Oreille River Basin and Kalispel adjudicated lands. This position is responsible for conducting field inventories, the identification and recordation of historic and prehistoric archaeological sites, and producing associated site forms and reports. This employee will work collaboratively with the Cultural Resources Program on a variety of tasks, including field inventory, site monitoring, remote sensing, and site evaluation. This position is a full time seasonal position where the incumbent may be required to work long, unusual hours and travel.  The incumbent may assist with work duties on projects with different requirements and funding sources, including Bonneville Power Administration, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Archaeologist I will also provide support to other projects as needed.

Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in archaeology, anthropology, or history, and 12 months experience in cultural resource management, research archaeology, or archaeological fieldwork; OR A.A. degree in related field with 3 years related experience. A Masters degree in the applicable science may be substituted for required experience.



Knowledge of: methods and practices of archaeological survey and excavation; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); standard laboratory and field methods and statistical data processing related to archaeological research.


Ability to: write and speak clearly and effectively including the ability formulate cultural resource management recommendations for a variety of audiences; organize, schedule and implement cultural resource management studies, including the ability to coordinate, lead or supervise technical or nontechnical volunteer or staff in performing variety of outdoor work tasks in inclement weather; utilize field computers for routine data collection and word processing tasks; basic word processing; prepare written reports; prepare archaeological site record forms; operate GPS.

Work history must reflect excellent attendance.
Must be willing to travel for work projects, meetings, training and conference participation as necessary. Must submit all applicable college transcripts. Must be in good physical condition to be able to work and hike in inclement weather conditions and over variable and rugged terrain.

Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment and work variable hours, long days, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as the work dictates.  Must bel able to pass a background check.
