Subject: [OR_Archaeology] OSU 2020 Archaeology Field School at Silvies Cave

** WARNING: This email originated from outside of the organization. **

Hello All,

I'll be directing the OSU Archaeology Field School at Silvies Cave this summer from Aug 3-28. The Silvies Cave site is located in the Silvies River Valley, north of Burns, Oregon at the margin between the Columbia River Basin and the Northern Great Basin. Based on some limited testing, we know that the site holds a stratified record of repeated human occupation, including the excavated discovery of a fluted point base in deeper deposits that was underlain by...a stemmed projectile point fragment! We're planning to expand excavations to learn more about this long record and to clarify whether a buried Clovis component exists at the site and whether stemmed points really do appear first here. As you all know, this sort of site has been incredibly elusive and working here should be a wonderful experience.

I've attached a flyer that has more details about the field school. I would appreciate it if you might spread the news and direct good students our way. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about this project.

Best regards,

Loren
