Professional Archaeologist
Anderson Environmental Consulting LLC (AEC) is an environmental consulting firm, based out of the Spokane, Washington area. We work primarily with public and private entities to ensure projects meet environmental requirements. A large portion of the projects are public infrastructure projects, many of which require Section 106 compliance and Archaeological and Historical Resource survey and reports. AEC prepares biological studies, wetland delineations, restoration, cultural resource studies, mitigation plans, and other studies for compliance with national, state and local regulations. We are looking for versatile, enthusiastic, quality team players that take pride in their work and want to grow with AEC.
Part-Time/Full-Time Position
AEC is currently accepting applications for a part-time/full-time Archaeologist to conduct cultural resource surveys for projects through primarily Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana and potentially other states. Successful candidate may also assist with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and other environmental studies as needed.
Essential Functions:
* Conduct Inventory, documentation, and evaluation of archaeological sites for compliance with federal regulations, such as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Section 4(f) of the DOT Act of 1966.
* Contact Project Managers and/or project staff to coordinate information needed for cultural reviews
* Plan, scopes and estimate for cultural resource studies as needed.
* Prepare documentation necessary to protect or mitigate significant archaeological, historic, and Native American sites
* Conduct field work e.g., survey, site testing, site evaluation, data recovery, construction site monitoring, and archaeological site condition monitoring as required to meet project schedules
* Interact with area Tribes, regulatory agency personnel such as the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), and other interested parties
* Experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) preferred
* Serve as peer/technical reviewer for internal and external documents to ensure quality
* GIS/GPS experience preferred
* Experience with ITD, WSDOT, FHWA and FAA preferred
Minimum Job Qualifications:
* Must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards in Archaeology
* Must have a graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field plus:
* At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration or management;
* At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archaeology,
* At least one year of full-time professional experience at a supervisory level in the study of archaeological resources of the prehistoric period. A professional in historic archaeology shall have at least one year of full-time professional experience at a supervisory level in the study of archaeological resources of the historic period.
* Demonstrated proficiency and experience in archaeological inventory and documentation (and the ability to complete the required paperwork such as the Archaeological Survey of Idaho (ASI) Site Inventory Form and the Archaeological and Historic Survey Report (AHSR)) in accordance with ITD and Idaho SHPO standards.
* Must be willing to conduct field and or construction monitoring work near roadways, construction sites or in remote project locations with occasional overnight stays and to conduct the physical labor for the field work. Must be willing to complete forms and help with marketing or administrative tasks and other non-archaeology related task as needed.
Hours Expected:
* Part time or full-time salary position. Typically, there will be more work during the summers and less during winters.
Compensation:
* Wage depends on experience and extent of needed training. Benefits include 401K, Medical and Dental Insurance, vacation and sick leave. Potential for partial telecommuting after an evaluation period but should be within 3 hours drive to Spokane area.
