Statement by Governor Ted Kulongoski on Climate Change Center

Salem-"I applaud U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar's announcement today that Oregon State University (OSU) has been selected as the home of one of our nation's eight new Climate Science Centers.

"Our state has been a national leader on researching and developing adaptation plans to address climate change as well as advancing public policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move our nation toward energy independence - and the selection of OSU and the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute, which we established in 2007, further advances this leadership role.

"This announcement comes the same week that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced it would establish one of six new regional integrated sciences and assessments programs at OSU.

"These two announcements not only recognize the expertise and nationally renowned work of some of our nation's greatest minds, but will help our region contribute even more to our nation's work to prepare for a climate-wise future."
