Global Warming Commission seeks input on meeting state climate goals
Portland, OR-The Oregon Global Warming Commission will hold two workshops in Portland on June 9 and June 16 to take input on its "Roadmap to 2020," a series of actions designed to help the state achieve its 2020 greenhouse gas reduction goal of estimated at 30 percent beneath today's levels.
"We hope Oregonians will seize this opportunity to help shape the State's strategies for reducing greenhouse gases," says Angus Duncan, Chair of the Commission. "The interim recommendations touch nearly every aspect of our lives in this state, from the cars we drive and homes we live in to how we manage our farms and forests. Oregonians can speak to these ideas in the evening workshops or by responding to the online survey, Duncan adds."
The June 9 workshop sponsored by the City of Portland and Multnomah County will be held at the Multnomah County Building Boardroom from 6-7:30 pm and is open to the public. The Multnomah County Building is located at 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
The June 16 workshop sponsored by the Apollo Alliance, Oregon Environmental Council and Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon will be held at the University of Oregon in Portland from 7-9:00 pm and is open to the public. U of O is located at 70 NW Couch Street.
Oregonians can give input regarding the Roadmap to 2020 and on the state's work to shrink the state's greenhouse gas footprint online at conversation.fuseinsight.com/topic/start/OGWC_Roadmap_3_3_2011/intro?SID=ACIO<http://www.conversation.fuseinsight.com/topic/start/OGWC_Roadmap_3_3_2011/intro?SID=ACIO>. Feedback from the survey will be used to inform the Commission's future work and will be provided to elected officials and policymakers working on a response to climate change.

The Oregon Global Warming Commission is a 25-member advisory group created by the 2007 Legislature through House Bill 3543. Governor Kulongoski appointed members and directed them to develop long-term policy recommendations to prepare for, adapt to, and combat global warming. In 2007, Oregon adopted greenhouse gas reduction goals which included cutting greenhouse gases 10 percent below 1990 levels by 2020; and achieving a 75 percent reduction from 1990 levels by 2050.
General public comments on issues of relevance to the Global Warming Commission can be sent to the Commission's email address at Oregon.GWC at state.or.us<mailto:Oregon.GWC at state.or.us>.
