During the webcasts, trainees log onto the web to participate in live training conducted by expert instructors. While many communities are dealing with increased risk of extreme weather and natural disasters, the ability of a community to respond, recover and bounce back is not equally distributed.  When an environmental justice lens is applied we recognize that some communities experience higher exposure to local water pollution, degraded local waterways and higher impervious surface area on top of other social factors that increase vulnerability. A challenge for watershed managers is to develop strategies which support resilience and integrate an environmental justice lens that effectively targets the most vulnerable communities.
This webinar will look at the environmental justice factors that contribute to vulnerability and provide examples of how EPA and its partner programs have effectively worked to help build resilience with vulnerable communities. We will also explore how the Urban Waters Partnership model can build networks of resilience and introduce other user-friendly tools and resources that help support resilience.
