Oregon Tracking will be hosting two events during National Public Health Week. Dr. Daniel Morris, Oregon Tracking's epidemiologist, will be presenting. We welcome you to attend in person or participate remotely. 1. Using DMV Records for Obesity Tracking, Monday April 1st, 12:00pm-1:00pm (PDT), Portland State Office Building - 800 NE Oregon St., Room 1B Public health agencies need reliable local data to guide prevention efforts. Obesity prevention is one of public health's top priorities today. DMV records can be used to track the population's weight status at a sub-county level, providing great detail on trends and disparities. This presentation covers the Oregon Environmental Public Health Tracking (Oregon Tracking) Program's work to validate data from DMV records, and demonstrates several applications to inform research and public health interventions. Please visit Oregon Tracking's website for our report that presents findings from the largest validation study conducted on DMV records and demonstrates applications for the data. www.healthoregon.org/epht *To Register for Remote Participation: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5714558102983848192 2. Promoting Radon Testing and Mitigation in Oregon, Tuesday April 2nd, 9:30am-10:00am (PDT), Portland State Office Building - 800 NE Oregon St., Room 1B Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas formed by the natural breakdown of uranium in rock, soil and water. Colorless, odorless and tasteless, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Data were provided by the Driver & Motor Vehicle Services Division of the Oregon Department of Transportation (DMV). With over 3 million records to analyze, DMV data allow us to map weight status at a very fine scale. Although people do underreport their weight to the DMV, the bias is consistent so the patterns are still meaningful. Never before have statewide data on weight status been displayed in such detail. I hope you will enjoy exploring this map. A low resolution version is attached and a high resolution version is available for download at healthoregon.org/epht. Thank you for sharing this link!
