The intern will complete a comprehensive formal literature review of publications related to the food environment. Oregon Tracking is particularly interested in methods for identifying, understanding and visualizing food swamps, defined as areas flooded with unhealthy sources of food. The intern will also become familiar with Oregon Tracking data, and will use the knowledge gained in the literature review to make recommendations for food swamp measures using data available to Oregon Tracking. Finally, the intern will develop a food swamp ArcGIS story map. The internship may be used to complete masters-level work experience requirements. Send a resume to kelly.e.cogswell at state.or.us, by May 16th, 2016, with a brief two-paragraph narrative describing your background and interest in the position. Candidates will be invited for a brief interview and notified shortly after. Visit www.healthoregon.org/epht to learn more about the Oregon Tracking program. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Park Service (NPS) have created a new tool to assist communities and we need your help spreading the word. Well-designed parks and trails can promote physical activity, reduce stress, and provide environmental benefits. The Parks, Trails, and Health Workbook: A Tool for Planners, Parks and Recreational Professionals, and Health Practitioners is quick guide for incorporating public health considerations in the development and improvement of a park or trail. This tool can help start collaborative discussions about the health benefits of parks and trails and prepare for a health impact assessment (HIA). You can find the workbook at: go.nps.gov/parkstrailshealth_workbook The tool includes information to help users find health data and learn about completed HIAs that included parks, trails, or greenways. It also includes case studies that pilot its use in Whatcom County, Washington, and a Mescalero Apache tribal area in New Mexico. The workbook consists of five sections: ? Community health profile. ? Site information. ? Site planning (includes subsections on physical health and social and mental wellness). ? Park and trail system planning. ? Monitoring and evaluation. The workbook was jointly developed by the CDC Healthy Community Design Initiative (www.cdc.gov/healthyplaces) and the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (www.nps.gov/rtca). We would much appreciate it, if you would share information about the Parks, Trails, and Health Workbook on your website, via Twitter, in newsletters, through listservs, and by any other mechanism you think would be useful. Thank you for helping us promote this new tool. Please direct any questions to Dee Merriam (Dmerriam at cdc.gov) and Attila Bality (attila_bality at nps.gov). -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
