From JARA.POPINGA at dhsoha.state.or.us Mon Feb 6 07:44:45 2017 From: JARA.POPINGA at dhsoha.state.or.us (Popinga Jara) Date: Mon, 6 Feb 2017 15:44:45 +0000 Subject: [Oregon_EPHT_News] OHA - New Climate and Health Resilience Plan 2017 Message-ID: Oregon Climate and Health Resilience Plan OHA launched the new Climate and Health Resilience Plan on February 2, 2017. Since 2014, when OHA issued its initial report on climate change, the state has experienced its warmest year (2015), lowest snowpack (2015) and worst wildfire season (2015). In 2016 Oregon was declared a national disaster area for severe storms and landslides. Climate change is already threatening Oregon?s air, water and food. OHA released the Climate and Health Resilience Plan, which warns that Oregon?s public health system is not equipped to respond to environmental health threats spawned by climate change. The report provides recommendations on ways the state can partner with local communities to reduce health hazards caused by climate change, including: * Monitoring health effects of climate change * Equipping partners to protect patients from environmental health risks and * Helping communities make adaptations to mitigate climate-driven threats to health Below is a list of resources to help you learn more about the plan: Watch a recording of the press conference. The Climate and Health Resilience Plan offers a selection of strategies and policy priorities for state, local, and tribal public health practitioners and partners. * Read the 2017 Resilience Plan (enhanced digital format)? * Read the Executive Summary (pdf)? * Watch the video series that was created as part of this project If you're interested in receiving updates on the implementation of the strategies outlined in the plan, please Join the Oregon climate and health listserv?.
