Oregon is a State that badly spends money in "arts" paying program to American white man exclusively for the arts, teacher of oil painting where it does not learn to draw either to paint, it makes a work badly and receive the budget. hrough a National Endowment for the Arts national initiative, American
asterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius, The Oregon Arts
ommission seeks concept proposals from Oregon arts organizations for
rojects that address the concept of American Masterpieces. Arts
ctivity may be in any artistic discipline.
The National Endowment for the Arts developed the American Masterpieces
nitiative to introduce Americans to the best of their cultural and
rtistic legacy. Funded programs will reach the American people through
ouring, local presentations, and arts education programs across all art
orms.
FY2009 American Masterpieces funds may support projects in all artistic
isciplines. The funds must be matched 1 to 1 with cash or in-kind
quivalents. The Arts Commission anticipates awarding approximately
55,000 in this program in FY2009 and it is the Commission’s
reference to award funds in support of a single project.
The Commission seeks brief proposals from Oregon non-profit arts
rganizations outlining project ideas. Proposals will be reviewed by
arch 3, 2008 with the most competitive proposals invited to participate
n further discussion with the Commission. Review criteria will
nclude:
The proposal’s appropriateness to the American Masterpiece’s
nitiative goals
Artistic merit
The proposal’s potential and ability to generate greater public
wareness of the particular master artist or masterpieces within Oregon.
The Oregon Arts Commission awarded the FY2008 American Masterpieces
rant to The Hallie Ford Museum of Art to support the development of an
xhibition, book and public programs on The Art of Ceremony: Regalia
rom Oregon Tribes.
he National Endowment for the Arts has circulated the following
xamples of possible American Masterpieces’ Activities:
- Home-based, touring, or print exhibitions that focus on major
merican schools, movements, traditions, subject areas, and themes in
he history of visual arts.
- Choral recitals/festivals that will highlight repertoire by American
omposers.
Home-based or touring performance of American choral work(s) that are
rtistically, historically, and culturally significant.
- Restaging, performance, and documentation of significant American
horeography in order to provide access to the rich, but often
naccessible, legacy of American dance history. Education activities
uch as master classes, lecture demonstrations, movement workshops,
tc.
- Masterpieces from the musical theaters classical canon; lesser known
orks by master artists; concert staging of lesser known masterworks;
usical theater for young audiences; masterworks representing new music

- Recognition of a particular style, movement, or tradition relevant to
our state or region, or a particular state visual arts master, through
xhibition, master class, lecture, radio/television profile,

Proposals should consist of no more than one page, and address the

Who decides what is a Masterpiece? Is there a list?
he NEA has asked each state arts agency to define what constitutes an
merican Master in their respective state. This may be an artist widely
ecognized or fairly unknown- either in state or not- alive or dead. The
ualifications as master(s) will need to be explained as part of a final
pplication to the NEA.
When must the project occur?
his project may start by July 1, 2008, but must be completed by
