The mission of the Department of Agriculture is threefold: (1) to ensure food safety and provide consumer protection, (2) protect agricultural resources, and (3) promote economic development in the agricultural industry. The department takes a holistic approach to regulating and promoting agricultural activities throughout Oregon. The department's budget exceeds $96 million and is split between fees, the General Fund, Lottery Funds and Federal Funds. During peak seasonal activities, the department will employ over 500 employees to carry out its varied functions.

This position is responsible for working as a member of the agency's financial management team. This position prepares the agency's biennial budget, participates in securing legislative approval of the budget, and ensures proper management of the budget, working closely with administrative and management staff and accounting and fiscal staff.
