County Seeks Grant for Henzel Park

Klamath County is seeking a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board to improve boating facilities at Henzel Park on Agency Lake. The Marine Board will consider the request at its March 16 meeting in Portland.
The county wants to replace the existing flush restroom located near the lake's boat ramp. This restroom was built in 1972 and is not Americans with Disabilities Act compliant. The replacement facility would be located in the same location as the existing restroom.
This project would complement the new ramp and parking area built during the 2003-2005 biennium and would provide boaters, anglers, and hunters with a full-service access site. The estimated cost of the proposed improvements is $195,000. Funds for the grant come from state boat title and registration fees and motorboat fuel tax revenues.
The Oregon State Marine Board is the state's boating agency. The Board is scheduled to consider boating facility grant requests on March 16, at the Columbia River Yacht Club in Portland. The meeting will begin promptly at 9 a.m. For a full agenda, visit www.boatoregon.com.

The City of Salem is seeking a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for improvements to the boat launch area at Wallace Marine Park. The board will consider the request at the March 16 meeting in Portland.
The City of Salem wants to replace existing boarding floats at the Wallace Marine Park ramp on the Willamette River. "The floats are approximately 10 years old and see a lot of wear and tear from boaters in the Valley,"says Wayne Shuyler, facilities manager for the Marine Board. "These floats are hit hard by floating debris during high water periods."

Port of Bandon Seeks Grant for Boating Facility

The Port of Bandon is seeking a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board to improve facilities at the Port ramp on the Coquille River. The Marine Board will consider the request at its March 16 meeting in Portland.
The Port of Bandon wants to replace existing boarding floats that are over fifteen years old. "The average lifespan of floats is approximately fifteen years," says Wayne Shuyler, the Facilities Manager for the Marine Board. "The existing floats have splintered and cracked and the constant surge and tidal action are breaking the hinge system. High tides often carry other large debris that can get trapped under and around the floats, which damages the wood and connectors," says Shuyler.
The Port intends to use existing piling and replace the wood boarding floats with a more advanced design that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, in the current location. The estimated cost to replace the boarding floats is $97,770. Funds for the grant come from state boat title and registration fees and motorboat fuel tax revenues.

City of Coos Bay Seeks Boating Facility Grants

The City of Coos Bay is seeking grants from the Oregon State Marine Board to replace boarding floats at Isthmus Slough and improve parking at the Empire Ramp facility. The Board will consider the request at the March 16 meeting in Portland.
For the first project, the city wants to replace the existing boarding floats on the Eastside Ramp on the Isthmus slough that are approximately ten years old. "The boarding floats are listing, creating a hazard to boaters and anglers, and the connector hinges are rusted and failing," says Wayne Shuyler, Facilities Manager at the Marine Board. The city intends to use existing pilings but replace the wood boarding floats with current designs that are Americans with Disabilities Act compliant. The estimated cost of the Eastside improvements is $64,000.
The city also wants to redo the existing boat trailer parking area at the Empire ramp on Coos Bay. "The existing parking area has large cracks and the asphalt is severely pitted," says Shuyler. "Damage in the parking area has accelerated over the last three years from heavy use and should be repaired before it becomes unusable." The city will treat the damaged areas, compact the surface, re-asphalt, and re-stripe the area. The estimated cost of the Empire improvements is $113,000.
