Marine Board Honors Multnomah County Marine Deputy
The Oregon State Marine Board presented Multnomah County Marine Deputy
Steve Dangler with a top award for service to boaters. The award was
presented at their annual post season conference on October 17, in
Bend.
Deputy Dangler received Officer of the Year for his outstanding
performance in the community and earned this award for a second
consecutive year, by also being ranked the highest in overall for
performance for the state. This is only the third time in 20 years that
an officer has received subsequent Officer of the Year awards.
"Dangler demonstrated a sincere drive to make the water safer and is
an all-round high achiever," said Bill Rydblom, Law Enforcement
Manager for the Marine Board. Rydblom continued, "He displayed
exemplary performance enforcing the laws on the water with over 2,129
boater contacts. He also proctored 912 boat examinations and reports,
conducted 26 hull inspections, and issued 230 citations and 956
warnings." Deputy Dangler was also featured in the Marine Board's
boating under the influence TV commercial called "Cooler Surprise,"
where he was submerged in a cooler full of ice. He displayed an
amazingly positive attitude, even after a full day of shooting and being
mildly hypothermic. Deputy Dangler also conducted five field sobriety
tests and removed impaired boaters off the water during the season.
"Deputy Dangler is a well rounded marine deputy and an asset to the
river patrol," Rydblom added.
