Jackson County Marine Patrol Earn Top Awards
	
	The Oregon State Marine Board honored marine law enforcement officers from around the state for their outstanding performance and contributions during the 2008 boating season at their annual post-season conference on October 14, in Bend. 
	Jackson County Marine Patrol received two awards; Award of Excellence for Enforcement of Boating Under the Influence of Intoxicants (BUII) and Program Administration Award.
	Deputy Jason Denton, a relatively new addition to the Marine Patrol, was recognized with the Award of Excellence for Enforcement of Boating Under the Influence of Intoxicants, by apprehending 14 intoxicated boaters and arresting them for BUII from September 2007 to August 2008.  "Our waterways are safer because of the efforts of one person.  On 14 different occasions, innocent people were spared from tragedy, said Bill Rydblom, Law Enforcement Manger for the Marine Board.  "He is to be commended for outstanding enforcement effort.  Deputy Denton has become a great asset to the marine patrol program," Rydblom added.
	The Jackson County Marine Patrol was also honored with the Yearly Program Administration Award which signifies a marine program that submits all reports, documents and information to the Marine Board in a timely and accurate manner and keeps the doors of communication open.  This award is dedicated to office staff, deputies, supervisors, command staff and the Sheriff.  "Jackson County Marine Patrol has always and continues to demonstrate the highest standards in law enforcement," Rydblom commented.
	Other awards presented during the conference included: Most Improved Yearly Program to Columbia County; Most Improved Seasonal Program to Deschutes County; Program of the Year, Columbia County; Program of the Year *Seasonal to Polk County; Education Award to Deputy Anthony Hackman, Malheur County Sheriff's Office; Education Award *Seasonal Program to Washington County; Officer of the Year to Deputy Robert Wurpes, Clackamas County; Seasonal Officer of the Year to Deputy Jerry Roley, Washington County Sheriff's Office; Rookie of the Year to Deputy Brent Laizure, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office; Trooper of the Year to Senior Trooper Marshall Maher and Trooper Martin Maher, OSP NW Region; Program Manager of the Year to Lt. Michael Shults, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office; Special Instructor Award to Corporal Will Coleman, Coos County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Brad Williams, Malheur County Sheriff's Office and Deputy Ernie Fields, Josephine County Sheriff's Office; Program Administration Award of Excellence to Crook County Sheriff's Office; Special Award *Program Manager of the Year to Corporal Neil Mackey, Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and Volunteer of the Year to Paul Cody of Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.
