Public Meeting Notice for the South Fork Coquille River

The Oregon State Marine Board will be holding two public meetings to gather input from the public concerning a proposed motor restriction on the South Fork Coquille River. The first meeting will be held on November 17 at 7 p.m. at the Medford Public Library, 205 S. Central Ave., in Medford. The second meeting will be held on November 18 at 7 p.m. at the North Bend Public Library, 1800 Sherman Ave., in North Bend. Interested parties are encouraged to attend one of the meetings or submit written testimony.

In late March, the Marine Board received a petition seeking motorboat restrictions on a portion of the South Fork Coquille River in Coos County. The petition specifically requested a motorboat ban on the river from Broadbend to the Forest Service Boundary above Powers. Petitioners have requested the rule to reduce user conflict on the river during congested periods. The Board is also interested in comments on compromise language that would allow electric-motor-only use, or language that would restrict motor use every-other-day on the river.

Written comments are being accepted until November 30 and can be mailed to June LeTarte, OSMB, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309. Comments can also be sent via email to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us, or fax (503) 378-4597. Comments by telephone cannot be accepted.
