Marine Law Enforcement –Hard Core Training on the Water

What:	The media is invited to participate in specialized law
enforcement training for new marine patrols. Ride along and learn first
hand about the vast array of skills marine law enforcement need to
acquire.

When: April 15, 2009, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
-Helicopter operations with a
“dropped” rescue swimmer.
			April 16, 2009, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., advanced on
the water scenarios.

Where:	On Devil’s Lake, three miles before Lincoln City, at the
B’nai B’rith (B.B.) Camp, 3509 East Devil’s Lake Road, Otis,
OR.

What you’ll see:	Exercises focusing on boat handling, maneuvering
and slolam courses, towing, trailering, field sobriety testing, boating
under the influence of intoxicants (BUII) recognition, rescue and
survival scenarios. The Coast Guard will also demonstrate the use of
live pyrotechnics.

Why:	Being on the water requires a different awareness and skill set
than highway enforcement, and that’s what this training is about.

Students have a chance to practice and fine-tune their boating skills
while learning how to apply officer safety techniques and marine law to
a variety of training scenarios.

Who:	County Deputies, State Troopers, Columbia River Indian Fisheries
enforcement (CRIFE) and the U. S. Coast Guard participate in this
training.

The OSMB contracts with various agencies for patrol and other related
services. This training program is designed to qualify law enforcement
for marine patrol duties using the most efficient and effective
techniques.
