Columbia County to Receive Boating Facility Grants

Columbia County will receive a financial boost through grants
awarded for two boating access projects. The Oregon State Marine Board
recently approved over 3.2 million in boating facility grants,
statewide.
The County was awarded a grant to install a debris boom upstream
of the J.J. Collins East transient tie-up on Coon Island. The debris
boom will redirect floating debris around the facility, keeping it open
for use year-round. The Board approved $85,000 in state boater funds
combined with $15,000 in applicant match, $6,000 in-kind contributions
and $100,000 in federal Boating Infrastructure Grant funds for a project
total of $206,000.
The County also applied for, and was awarded, a grant to replace
and expand the existing asphalt area at Beaver Landing. This grant will
pay for excavation, paving materials, curbing, wheel stops, striping, a
light pole and signage. The Board approved $165,000 in state boater
funds combined with $10,000 in applicant match, $6,000 in applicant
in-kind contributions for a project total of $181,000.
